Nancy
As she sleeps
I lie awake
thoughts whirling
fear spinning
she will never know the peace
that she brings me just by
being
beside me
at rest
and silent.
Her curves against the covers
smooth and rounded
and alluring
as familiar
as the darkness
behind my eyelids
when they close
knowing that she’ll be there
to protect me
never leaving.
Her action smooth and deadly
her voice powerful and roaring
buckshot, a curt reply
to the horrors of the world.
She sings to me sweet promises
to help me find my final resting
should my flesh start to sicken
with the death that brings no peace.
